Vitalik Buterin: Ethereum should focus on being a store of value rather than a fee-burning token

Techub News News: Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin posted his views on the X platform, arguing that Ethereum should focus on "ETH as a store of value (SoV) rather than "ETH as a fee-burning token." He offered three main reasons: the strength of the fee-burning mechanism is overestimated; if optimized for this, Ethereum would struggle to balance decentralization and capture resistance; while focusing on being a store of value aligns with Ethereum's core strengths (decentralization and CROPS). Buterin said that EIP-1559 and its burning mechanism are good and should be retained, but even if fee burning remains below the break-even point of 10% for a long time, there is no need for regret, because ETH 's value comes from other aspects. He pointed out that the core reason people value Ethereum lies in its decentralization and CROPS, and the main practical benefit these characteristics bring is stability. Being a store of value is precisely the area where this stability translates into practical advantage, rather than being merely extra effort made for ideology.
