Vitalik interprets the new mission statement of the Ethereum Foundation: doubling down on Ethereum and advancing it as a "technical sanctuary."
Techub News reports that Vitalik Buterin posted on the X platform to interpret the Ethereum Foundation's new mission statement, "EF Mandate." He stated that he will double down on Ethereum and is full of anticipation for its future development. Previously, the Ethereum Foundation released a 38-page new mission statement document titled "EF Mandate," which elaborates on its development philosophy, priorities, and long-term role within the Ethereum ecosystem. It points out that Ethereum's core goal is to promote "self-sovereignty," ensuring users have ultimate control over their identity, assets, actions, and agency.
Vitalik Buterin pointed out that Ethereum plays a unique role in the global digital ecosystem, with its mission being to serve as a "sanctuary technology" to uphold technological self-sovereignty and foster collaboration in an environment free from coercion and domination. Ethereum's core objective is to ensure that no individual, organization, or ideology can establish absolute control in cyberspace, while providing users with an "exit mechanism." The Ethereum Foundation, as the network's "guardian," will continue to prioritize advancing the CROPS principles—Censorship-Resistant & Capture-Resistant, Open Source, Privacy, and Security. At the protocol layer, it will focus on decentralization, verifiability, network liveness, and security, while also promoting capability upgrades such as account abstraction to reduce reliance on intermediaries. At the application layer, the Ethereum Foundation will be dedicated to creating a "zero option" user experience that balances security, privacy, and user autonomy, and will complement broader ecosystem projects to jointly advance the development of the Ethereum ecosystem.
