Microsoft open-sources TokenEconomizer, which can reduce coding agent costs by up to 30.9%

Techub News reports that the research team of Microsoft Research and UC Berkeley has released the open-source cost controller TokenEconomizer. This plugin learns from a codebase’s past sessions to reduce token waste in subsequent sessions. It is applicable to coding agents such as Claude Code, Codex, GitHub Copilot CLI, and Pi, and does not modify model weights or agent code. In 277 SWE-Bench tasks, it reduced average cost by 18.4% to 30.9% under 5 agent-model settings. (MarkTechPost)
