Vitalik: Shrimp welfare is not a crazy idea but a real problem

Techub News, @VitalikButerin posted on Twitter, saying that the issue of shrimp welfare is not a nerdy crazy thought experiment, but a serious topic involving the real-world practice of "eyestalk ablation," which deserves serious attention rather than disregard. Eyestalk ablation is a common practice in aquaculture, where the eyestalks of female shrimp are removed to promote spawning, but it causes pain and stress to the shrimp. Vitalik used this to call for attention to the neglected issue of animal welfare, arguing that the welfare of even small creatures should be included in ethical considerations.
