EU finance ministers agree on roadmap for digital euro

Techub News: According to Reuters, EU finance ministers met with European Central Bank President Christine Lagarde and EU Commissioner Valdis Dombrovskis, reaching an agreement on the roadmap for launching a digital euro. An attendee stated that the European Central Bank will also submit a holding limit proposal for approval by the Council of European Finance Ministers.

Although the European Commission proposed digital euro legislation in June 2023, the European Parliament and the European Council have not yet completed the approval process. The European Council plans to complete its deliberations by the end of the year. Additionally, the European Central Bank hopes the legislation will be finalized by June next year, after which it will take approximately two and a half to three years to officially launch the digital euro.
