Bitcoin is once again approaching $80,000, but this time, the "gear" it carries differs from last year's performance, appearing more concentrated and more meaningful.
After months of沉寂 and capital outflows, demand for U.S. spot Bitcoin ETFs has seen a strong rebound recently, forming the longest consecutive net inflow period since 2026.
This new wave of capital is pushing Bitcoin toward a critical psychological and structural turning point.
According to statistics, as of last Friday, U.S. spot Bitcoin ETFs have recorded net inflows for nine consecutive trading days, attracting approximately $2.12 billion in new funds since April 14.
This not only reverses the decline since the beginning of the year but also represents the strongest wave of capital influx since last October, leading Bitcoin to rebound from its lows.
However, unlike last year's broad rally, the engine of this capital inflow appears exceptionally concentrated. BlackRock's iShares Bitcoin Trust stands out, capturing approximately $1.6 billion in net inflows over the same period, almost single-handedly driving this rebound.
In contrast, although Morgan Stanley and Grayscale have contributed, their scale is not on the same level. The resilience of this demand recovery, heavily reliant on a single product, will be tested in future market volatility.
The most profound impact of this round of ETF capital inflows may not be in pushing Bitcoin's price up by a few percentage points, but in quietly reshaping the cost structure of market participants. This transforms the $80,000 area from a mere psychological threshold into a lifeline of profit and loss for a large amount of institutional capital.
Bitwise's data proves this point: the total average cost basis for current holders of U.S. spot Bitcoin ETFs is approximately $81,000. Among them, the cost basis of the largest fund, IBIT, is around $80,200.
This means that for the billions of dollars that poured in during this rebound, $80,000 is their sea level.
As prices approach $80,000, these recent institutional buyers are collectively nearing their breakeven point. The market's game will become extremely delicate from here.
If the breakout is confirmed and support strengthens, and if Bitcoin can decisively and cleanly break through and hold above $81,000, this massive ETF cost basis will be converted into solid support.
When most institutional holdings shift from unrealized losses to unrealized gains, holding confidence will be greatly enhanced.
Conversely, if the $80,000 area once again proves to be an insurmountable chasm and prices turn downward from here, the consequences will be more complex than in previous corrections. Returning to the breakeven point or a marginal profit state could tempt those institutional investors who have endured unrealized loss anxiety to choose "breakeven exits" or hedging operations.
Although capital flows have turned positive, the model from macro research platform Ecoinometrics sends a cautious signal.
The model shows that only when the net inflow of Bitcoin reaches approximately 50,000 coins within 30 days does the probability of sustained positive returns significantly increase. Although the current demand recovery is strong, its scale has not yet crossed this threshold necessary to confirm a trend reversal.
Therefore, the current Bitcoin market stands at a crossroads that is stronger than in previous correction periods, yet full of uncertainty.
