After a general review of some award-winning projects from the @solana x402 hackathon, I found that there isn't much hype around narrative-level concepts like Facilitator or Launchpad. Instead, projects are clustering around tool-layer services that make it more convenient for Agents to invoke payments:
- Galaksio aims to solve the problem of on-demand access to GPU computing resources to optimize computing service costs;
- PayPerPrompt is aggregating APIs for LLM models, allowing Agents to pay per prompt to call various models like GPT/Claude/Gemini;
- Triton Gateway packages Solana's historical data into x402 paid interfaces, enabling developers to pay per query without running their own full nodes;
- x402 Oracle offers per-call oracle services, StreamPay enables per-second content payment, etc.
The common characteristic of these projects is their practical focus, staying on the foundational infrastructure loop of discovering services, integrating them, and seamlessly connecting payments.
As for projects centered on narrative hype—like Facilitators competing on who is cheaper, more stable, or has Farming effects, or Launchpads competing on whose token issuance mechanism is fairer, or who better addresses asset value empowerment and liquidity design—such projects are almost nowhere to be seen among Solana's award winners.
Actually, this is quite normal. In the current stage of poor market liquidity, purely telling stories simply doesn't work anymore!
This also touches on a core underlying logic of the x402 track: no matter what is being hyped, it ultimately must land on more convenient and practical payment capabilities. In other words, without transaction volume from payment gateways or without the actual demand for Agents to invoke paid services on a large scale, even the cheapest Facilitator tokens would just be spinning their wheels.
This is why I've always emphasized that the x402 Provider layer is severely undervalued. Whoever can aggregate more LLM interfaces, computing resources, and data services, and whoever enables Agents to complete calls with the lowest friction cost, holds the real gateway to the x402 ecosystem.
Only when the infrastructure at the tool and service layers gradually matures will competition among Facilitators and Launchpads enter a truly valuable phase.
Of course, this is also the fundamental reason for my long-term optimism about the x402 track. Real builders aren't just stuck on paper narratives, as many might think. There are plenty, plenty of projects out there solving real needs and problems.
