The large-scale real-world adoption of ZK has long been hindered by two major obstacles: it's too difficult to write, and the computational power is too expensive. However, two upcoming "step functions" in the field are expected to address this issue:
One is the upcoming OpenVM V2 from @openvm_org, which allows developers to write business logic in familiar general-purpose languages, with the underlying engine automatically and robustly "translating" it into ZK proofs;
The other is the production-grade auto-precompiles brought by @powdr_labs, where the compiler can automatically identify time-consuming cryptographic operations and directly route them to the optimal hardware for processing, sparing developers the pain of manually optimizing the underlying layers.
These two breakthroughs essentially equip developers with a "foolproof compiler" and an "automatic accelerator."
But why is this beneficial for the ZK field?
A simple business logic deduction makes it clear: when the development barrier approaches zero and ZK applications explode, it will inevitably generate massive demand for proving computations. Currently, the proving market solutions in the ZK field have advanced ahead of schedule, but the demand from ZK applications is still insufficient....
This is precisely the core reason why open proving markets like @boundless_xyz are looking forward to these technological advancements. After all, without the demand for large-scale ZK application adoption, where would the massive demand for proving computations come from? And how, in this era of technological abstraction, can they prove the leading edge and commercial value of their own ZK proving technology?
Therefore, the arrival of these two step functions is quite significant for the overall progress of the ZK field. They decouple front-end ZK development/compilation from back-end computational proving. Front-end developers can focus on finding application scenarios, while back-end computational hubs can concentrate on competing in proof efficiency and cost.
Only when both sides progress and showcase their achievements simultaneously can the ZK field truly explode in a meaningful sense.
