At the World Economic Forum Annual Meeting 2026 in Davos, CZ Changpeng Zhao stated that after over a decade of development, the crypto field has now established two mature industry pillars: exchanges and stablecoins. The future growth will primarily focus on three new tracks: tokenization, payment integration, and AI synergy, injecting new imaginative potential into the industry's development.
The mature landscape of exchanges and stablecoins has been validated by the market. Data from 2025 shows that the trading volume of perpetual contracts on centralized exchanges reached a historic high of 86.2 trillion US dollars, while related business on decentralized exchanges surged by 346%, becoming the core hub of industry liquidity. The stablecoin market also performed impressively, with its total market capitalization growing by 48.9% throughout the year to 311 billion US dollars. USDT and USDC have formed a duopoly, not only supporting the core circulation of crypto trading but also beginning to penetrate real-world economic scenarios such as cross-border payments and DeFi collateral, becoming a crucial bridge connecting traditional finance with the crypto world.
Building on the mature industries, tokenization is seen as the first potential track. Zhao Changpeng revealed that they are currently advancing asset tokenization collaborations with approximately 12 national governments, involving fractionalized financing of state-owned assets like infrastructure and real estate. Countries such as Pakistan and Malaysia are already on the communication list. This trend is not just talk; the global tokenized asset market size approached 200 billion US dollars in 2025, with institutions like BlackRock and JPMorgan entering the field. Industry forecasts predict this scale may exceed 400 billion US dollars in 2026, becoming a significant pathway for the digitization of traditional assets.
Cross-border integration in the payment sector is accelerating. Zhao Changpeng emphasized that the backend integration of crypto payments with traditional payments will ignite market growth. Clear signals are already present: the cost of cross-border transfers using stablecoins is only 3% of that of the traditional correspondent banking model, and settlement time is reduced from days to minutes. In emerging markets like Argentina and Nigeria, the penetration rate of stablecoins increased by 200% annually. As technological compatibility and regulatory frameworks improve, this efficient payment solution is expected to further penetrate scenarios such as retail consumption and cross-border trade, ushering in a new phase of scale growth.
The synergy between AI and cryptocurrency outlines a more distant future. Zhao Changpeng proposed that cryptocurrency will become the native currency for AI agents. These intelligent agents will directly use crypto assets for settlement when autonomously handling payment needs. This vision already has a technical foundation; projects like Fetch.ai have achieved on-chain autonomous collaboration among AI agents. The programmability and security of cryptocurrencies恰好 match the efficient, anonymous payment needs of AI agents, holding potential for large-scale application in future scenarios like smart grid dispatch and logistics automation.
From mature industries to the rise of new tracks, the crypto industry is undergoing a transformation from scale expansion to value deepening. The three directions pointed out by Zhao Changpeng essentially represent the deep integration of technology with the real economy. With advancing government cooperation, the implementation of payment scenarios, and the iteration of AI technology, the crypto industry may usher in a more resilient development cycle.
