There is a reason private credit adapted to on-chain earlier than most RWAs
It inherently has the element that on-chain markets can price: yield.
This makes its development path clearer than private equity, venture capital, or real estate.
Those categories are primarily about access, packaging, or long-term investment.
Private credit offers a more direct route.
Cash flows can be distributed, financed, and ultimately reused within the crypto market.

What matters is not that private credit has been tokenized
It is that private credit is starting to function on-chain.
Many tokenized assets remain stuck at the issuance stage.
They are packaged.
They are distributed.
They are held in wallets.
Private credit goes a step further.
It is starting to appear as collateral in lending markets and in strategies that allow users to borrow against that asset without fully exiting.
This is far more significant than simple tokenization.
The market is already distinguishing access from utility
A strong signal in the report is that the majority of active private credit market capitalization is concentrated in permissionless products.

This says something important.
Users do not just want exposure to private credit.
They want private credit that behaves more like crypto assets:
Transferable
Usable in decentralized finance (DeFi)
Easier to finance
Easier to move between venues
This is entirely different from tokenized fund interest that remains essentially static.
The fastest-growing products come from those built for crypto rails
Another standout point is where the capital actually resides.

The largest share of on-chain private credit is not in tokenized fund wrappers.
It comes from on-chain lending pools.
This is crucial because it indicates the market is rewarding structures designed for on-chain use, rather than traditional products repackaged for new channels.
The more functional a product is within the crypto market, the more demand it seems to attract.
Why private credit leads the way
Private credit solves two problems at once.
For traditional asset managers, tokenization improves distribution.
For on-chain markets, it introduces a new type of productive collateral.
This combination is still rare among RWAs.
Real estate can be tokenized, but liquidity and valuation remain difficult.
Private equity and venture capital can be tokenized, but are mostly still held passively.
Carbon credits benefit from better tracking but have low utility in DeFi.
Private credit is one of the first categories to tokenize while improving both access and financial utility.
None of this eliminates the underlying risks
It is still private credit.
Underwriting still matters.
Borrower quality still matters.
Recovery value still matters.
Liquidity still matters.
Putting an asset on-chain does not solve any of these issues.
It merely makes the product easier to distribute, and in some cases, easier to finance.
This is useful.
But it is not the same as reducing underlying risk.
The real lesson from RWAs
Private credit matters because it shows what the market rewards.
Not just tokenized assets.
But assets that become more useful once they are on-chain.
This might be a clearer way to think about the next phase of RWAs.
The industry leaders will not be the easiest assets to package.
They will be the assets that gain real utility from being part of the on-chain financial system.
