Tia,Techub News
BestPath AVS:
TriAI Framework:
Ex-Alameda CEO Caroline Ellison Says Sam Bankman-Fried Directed Her To Commit Crimes As Trial Enters Week TwoFormer Alameda Research chief executive Caroline Ellison says former FTX CEO Sam Bankman-Fried directed her to commit fraud.
Ellison said Alameda, the trading arm of FTX, took around $14 billion from the exchange’s customers and used it for investments between 2020 and 2022, according to lengthy court transcripts from Bankman-Fried’s trial released by Inner City Press on the social media platform X.
Ellison says Bankman-Fried “set up the systems and told us to take the money.” She also says Alameda defrauded lenders by sending balance sheets “that made Alameda look less risky than it was.”
Ellison notes that she and Bankman-Fried “started sleeping together on and off in the summer of 2020” and dated for a while before breaking up. She says the former FTX CEO told her about his ambition to become president of the United States.
FTX filed for bankruptcy last November after its native asset collapsed and it was forced to halt customer withdrawals. Ellison says the exchange couldn’t give its customers their money because Alameda had used their assets to repay lenders.
Bankman-Fried faces a slew of charges for allegedly defrauding customers, mishandling billions of dollars worth of their funds and making illegal political donations. If convicted, he could face more than 100 years in prison.
Ellison pled guiltyto fraud charges last December and is reportedly cooperating with Bankman-Fried’s prosecution.

Mastercard’s Multi Token Network played a pivotal role in the trial.
There is a growing importance of CBDCs and blockchain in the financial industry.
In a groundbreaking development, Mastercard has announced the successful completion of a trial involving wrapping central bank digital currencies (CBDCs) for use in purchasing nonfungible tokens (NFTs) on blockchains, particularly Ethereum.
This milestone experiment demonstrates the fusion of traditional financial systems and blockchain technologies, promising innovative possibilities for commerce.
The CBDC wrapping trial
Mastercard’s trial was executed with the Reserve Bank of Australia (RBA), Australia’s Digital Finance Cooperative Research Centre CBDC, Cuscal, and Mintable. The primary aim was to assess the feasibility of integrating CBDCs into blockchain platforms. The live test involved a CBDC owner buying an NFT listed on Ethereum.
The process was straightforward yet pioneering. It “locked” a predetermined quantity of a pilot CBDC on the RBA’s pilot CBDC platform, creating an equivalent amount of wrapped pilot CBDC tokens on the Ethereum blockchain.
Notably, security measures were in place to ensure the transaction’s legitimacy. The Ethereum wallets of both the buyer and seller, along with the NFT marketplace’s smart contract, were meticulously vetted, permitting only authorized participants. This demonstration showcased the ability to exercise controls, even on public blockchains.
Role of Mastercard’s Multi Token Network
Mastercard’s Multi Token Network, introduced in June 2023, played a pivotal role in enabling this transformative trial. This network seamlessly bridges payment technology with blockchain, offering a dynamic way to link digital currencies and NFTs.
Zack Burcks, CEO and founder of Mintable acknowledged the potential of this collaboration, emphasizing its ability to combat fraud, enhance security, and streamline record-keeping.
In a broader context, the Reserve Bank of Australia has shown keen interest in the potential of an Australian dollar CBDC. It envisions the CBDC facilitating complex payment arrangements and fostering financial innovation that fiat currencies cannot replicate. However, it’s noted that further research is essential to fully comprehend the benefits and implications of such a digital currency.

SBF’s Trial Bombshell: Star Witness Caroline Ellison Details Scheme To Suppress Bitcoin Below $20,000 ThresholdAdvertisement
Caroline Ellison, the former head of Sam Bankman-Fried’s crypto hedge fund Alameda Research and prosecutor’s star witness in the criminal fraud case against the disgraced FTX founder, claimed in court that there was a plot to manipulate the Bitcoin price by selling the crypto if it exceeded the $20,000 level.
BTC Price Manipulation Plot Exposed
In the most salacious bit of testimony on Sept. 11, Sam Bankman-Fried’s former colleague and ex-girlfriend Caroline Ellison, shed light on one of the notes from a conversation with SBF in which she wrote: “Keep selling BTC if it’s over $20K,” implying a calculated move to stifle Bitcoin’s price. Prosecutors questioned her about the motive behind such efforts and their effects on the market.
AUSA: What are these?
Ellison: Notes from a conversation with Sam. I wrote, keep selling BTC if its over $20K.
AUSA: You wrote, FTX may raise. What does that mean?
Ellison: Raise capital by selling equity, to get more money. To investors like MSB, the Saudi Prince

Ellison, who ran Alameda Research, admitted to committing fraud related to the implosion of the FTX crypto exchange last year. Part of the 28-year-old’s plea deal with the government entails cooperating with the prosecution’s case against his former boss, Bankman-Fried.
Ellison also dropped other explosive allegations during her testimony. She revealed that at the direction of SBF, Alameda Research took a whopping roughly $13 billion from customers’ of the now-bankrupt FTX exchange by September 2022. The borrowed funds were allegedly used to repay loans, with other funds being funneled toward “investments and political donations”.
Bribing Chinese Officials
Ellison also spoke about paying a huge bribe to Chinese officials to access funds that had been locked on exchanges.

The Chinese government froze Alameda/FTX’s funds in response to a money laundering probe that did not involve both entities, she told the court.
They hired a lawyer in China to try and get the funds unfrozen, but he ultimately failed. Ellison said they then decided to send around $150 million in crypto to accounts which, to her understanding, belonged to Chinese government officials. Notably, the former Alameda CEO used coded language when reporting it to Bankman-Fried.
Market observers and the cryptocurrency community will be closely following SBF’s trial, which is expected to last six weeks, for any new bombshells regarding the Bitcoin price manipulation scheme and possible repercussions for crypto crook Bankman-Fried, Ellison.
Bulls are finding it difficult to maintain Bitcoin’s price above $27,000 as intensifying Israel-Hamas tensions dampen investor confidence. Although BTC is far off its historic high of $69,044 reached in 2021’s bull market, the benchmark crypto is still trading up 67% since the beginning of the year.
Ads by CointrafficSBF Trial: Judge reprimands defense counsel in Ellison cross-examinationSam Bankman-Fried’s former business associate Caroline Ellisonappeared today for her third day of testimony in the former FTX CEO’s criminal trial.
With prosecutors having wrapped their questioning of Ellison, Bankman-Fried’s counsel, Mark Cohen, began his cross-examination today. Reports from the inside the courtroom, provided live by New York media outlet Inner City Press, paint a picture of a courtroom that is bewildered and exasperated by Mr. Cohen’s tactics.
Cohen’s questions were largely repetitive of materials covered in prosecution’s examination. The prosecutions repeatedly challenged the relevance of the questions and engaged in multiple sidebars with the judge and the defense’s request. These interruptions led Judge Kaplan to express his wish to reduce the frequency of these sidebars, thereby maintaining the flow of the proceedings.
Judge Kaplan reportedlyexpressed his astonishment at the form of interrogation, stating, “Mr. Cohen, I’ve never seen the cross of a cooperator done like this.”
Ellison’s role at Alameda and her relationship with Bankman-Fried was a recurring theme in the cross-examination. Cohen’s line of questions highlighted differences in their risk tolerance, business vision, and even personal styles. Their contrasting views on the blockchain project Solana, FTX’s business model, and their distinct stress management styles were brought into the spotlight.
Cohen’s line of questioning also focused on the management of Alameda’s funds, the implications of their business model, and the usage of their loans. According to Ellison, the structure which Alameda employed, while being likened to a hedge fund, had advantages over traditional hedge funds due to its flexibility.
Caroline Ellison is among the government’s star witnesses in its case against Bankman-Fried. Her testimony is ongoing at press time.

$100 million bribe, BTC price manipulation, 7 balance sheets: SBF Trial UpdateSummary
Caroline Ellison, SBF’s former lover, prepared seven balance sheets to mislead investors.
SBF, Ellison and Wang allegedly plotted to manipulate the price of Bitcoin to keep it under $20k.
SBF reportedly offered Chinese officials over $100m in bribes to unfreeze FTX assets.
The Sam Bankman-Fried trial is the hottest newsin crypto, and the hits keep coming for the infamous ex-CEO of FTX. The case’s second week has already seen SBF’s ex-lover, Caroline Ellison, testifyagainst SBF’s manic desire to keep his failing company, Alameda Research, afloat. But the depth of her accusations keeps growing, as it becomes more apparent the extreme lengths SBF was willing to go to salvage the sinking Alameda ship.
Ellison Prepared “7 different balance sheets”
Ellison, the former CEO of Alameda Research, had little control over the investment arm of FTX and was beholden to SBF’s requests. Allegedly, one such request was for Ellison to hide Alameda’s $15 billion in debt from investors such as Genesis Trading – who went bankrupt following the FTX collapse. To accomplish this, Ellison conjured up several unique balance sheets for Alameda – some more truthful than others – and let SBF pick which he would show to prospective business partners.
Ellison testified:
He (SBF) wanted me to conceal things on our balance sheet. So I prepared seven different balance sheets. I did not want to be dishonest but I presented the alternatives to Sam and let him decide.
Caroline Ellison
According to Ellison, SBF selected the balance sheet that conveniently hid the gaping, billion-dollar hole in Alameda’s accounting. Eventually, the FTX executives would use customer money to pay back these exorbitant loans.
A Plot to Manipulate Bitcoin
Bitcoin is one of the most sturdy cryptocurrencies on the market. Its extremely high market cap and trading volume make manipulating it almost impossible. But it becomes a bit more feasible when you have billions of dollars at your disposal – as SBF and Caroline Ellison did.
Ellison claimed on Wednesday that she, SBF and other FTX execs plotted to manipulate the price of BTC by selling off customer’s funds. The conspiracy was centred around keeping Bitcoin’s price around USD $20k, although the exact rationale for this alleged move was unclear.
Accordingto CEO of Ark Invest, Cathie Wood, SBF disliked Bitcoin because,
it’s transparent and decentralized. He couldn’t control it.
Cathie Wood
Getting on the Wrong Side of International Governments
SBF didn’t just allegedly break laws in the United States – revelations on Wednesday accused the disgraced businessman of attempting to bribe Chinese officials and mislead Saudi Arabian investors.
After the FTX collapse, billions of dollars in crypto assets were frozen in the international investigation. Chinese officials were reportedly offered a bribe of up to $100 million – including Thai sex workers– to cease their money laundering probe and relinquish control over FTX’s assets. Of course, the ploy was unsuccessful.
Ellison also claimed that SBF considered selling equity in his failing FTX to Saudi Arabian investors who were not privy to the company’s significant debt.
Mastercard announces successful wrapped CBDC trial resultsThe experiment demonstrated that CBDCs could be wrapped to purchase NFTs on blockchains such as Ethereum.
Mastercard has completed a trial involving wrapping central bank digital currencies (CBDCs) on different blockchains, similar to wrapped Bitcoin (wBTC) and wrapped Ether (wETH).
According to the October 12 announcement, the trial was conducted with the Reserve Bank of Australia (RBA) and the country's Digital Finance Cooperative Research Centre CBDC, along with participation from Cuscal and Mintable. In a live environment, Mastercard said the solution allowed a CBDC owner to purchase a nonfungible token (NFT) listed on Ethereum. "The process “locked” the required amount of a pilot CBDC on the RBA’s pilot CBDC platform and minted an equivalent amount of wrapped pilot CBDC tokens on Ethereum," the payment processor wrote.
"A pre-requisite of the test transaction was that the Ethereum wallets of both the buyer and seller, as well as the NFT marketplace smart contract, were ‘allow-listed’ within the platform. With all other transfers of the wrapped pilot CBDC blocked, it successfully demonstrated the platform’s ability to implement controls – even on public blockchains."
The solution utilizes Mastercard's Multi Token Network, introduced in June 2023, integrating payment technology with blockchains. "Together with Mastercard, we have identified a use case whereby digital currencies and NFTs can easily be linked, potentially stamping out fraud and theft, ending the loss of documentation and records, and unleashing new possibilities for commerce," commented Zack Burcks, CEO and founder of Mintable.
The RBA previously statedthat an Australian dollar CBDC would potentially enable complex payment arrangements and innovation in the finance sector that can not be substituted by fiat money. However, the central bank also noted that "more research" is required to evaluate the benefits.

Indonesia to conduct blockchain trials for public servicesTuhu Nugraha, who works with the Indonesian government, said the country will soon conduct trials on applying blockchain technology in public service use cases.
Following the launch of its government-backed crypto exchange, the Southeast Asian country of Indonesia is becoming a budding crypto hub that aims to be one of the leaders in Web3 technology, according to Indonesian blockchain and metaverse executives.
At the recent Blockchain Economy Summit in Dubai, Cointelegraph spoke with Grace Sabandar, co-founder of the Indonesia Blockchain and Metaverse Center (IBMC), and Tuhu Nugraha, the principal of the Indonesia Applied Digital Economy and Regulatory Network (IADERN). The executives spoke on the state of digital assets, blockchain and metaverse adoption in Indonesia.
According to Sabandar, the country’s youth comprise a large percentage of its population of 270 million, which is a demographic that is “adaptive to new technology.” The executive also pointed out that because of this, the country has been one of the largest userbases in the world when it comes to Web2 social media applications like Facebook and Instagram.

Because of this, Sabandar told Cointelegraph that the country is ready to be one of the leaders in Web3 adoption. “We want to be the leader, not only the user of technology, because now, because of the decentralization, anybody can do something, anybody can create something,” she said.
Sabandar also highlighted that the IBMC has been working with various sectors, including the government, private sector communities, media and academia, to educate the country about Web3. She explained:
“That’s our homework, actually. To really educate people about the benefit of using blockchain, about the transparency, how smart contracts can benefit their businesses, what is decentralization, things like that.”
Meanwhile, Nugraha, who works as an adviser for the Indonesian government when it comes to its research on blockchain and metaverse technologies, said that the government’s approach to Web3 technology is very collaborative.

Nugraha also revealed that the Indonesian government plans to conduct trials on applying blockchain technology in public service use cases. According to the executive, the government will test the use of blockchain-based digital certificates for land ownership and certificates of competencies for the education sector.
He believes that with blockchain’s inherent features, implementing the technology on certificates can potentially combat certificate fraud and help the government verify the authenticity of various kinds of digital certificates using on-chain data.

FTX hacker moves $120M amid Sam Bankman-Fried trial: ReportThe blockchain analytics firm Elliptic didn't rule out the possibility of an FTX inside job being behind the $477 million hack.
Anonymous hackers of the now-defunct exchange FTX have been moving large amounts of assets stolen from the platform, with new transactions occurring just as the ongoing trial of FTX founder Sam Bankman-Friedgets underway.
As much as 72,500 Ether (ETH) of stolen assets from FTX has awakened for the first time since the exchange was hacked in November 2022, the blockchain analytics firm Elliptic reportedon Oct. 12.
According to Elliptic, the thief has converted $120 million worth of ETH into Bitcoin (BTC) through the multi-chain decentralized exchange (DEX) THORSwap since Sept. 30, 2023.
The first converting transactions were made just a few days before Bankman-Fried’s trial started on Oct. 3. At the time of the hack, the converted amount was worth $87 million, or 18% of the total stolen funds of $477 million.
The FTX hacker applied a similar laundering technique to the one deployed soon they stole the funds when the thief transferred 65,000 ETH ($100,000) to BTC using the cross-chain bridge RenBridge in November last year.
“The 180,000 ETH that was not converted to Bitcoin through RenBridge remained dormant until the early hours of Sep. 30, 2023 — by which time it was worth $300 million,” Elliptic wrote in the new report.

Elliptic mentioned that the FTX hacker lost $94 million in the days following the hack as the attacker rushed to launder the funds through decentralized exchanges, cross-chain bridges and mixers.

Almost a year after the hack, the identity of the FTX thief is still unknown, Elliptic noted. The blockchain analytics firm suggested three potential possibilities for who could be behind the FTX theft, including an FTX inside job, North Korea’s Lazarus Group and Russia-linked criminal groups.
“Some FTX employees would have had access to the business’s crypto assets in order to move them for operational reasons. In the chaos surrounding the company’s bankruptcy and collapse, it may have been possible for an internal actor to take these assets,” the Elliptic’s report reads.
