Bybit
Binance

自 2012 年波多黎各政府推出 「Puerto Rico Enacts Radical Tax Incentives to Attract New Capital To The Island」(下文简称 Act 22)和 「Tax Incentives to Promote Export Services in Puerto Rico」(下文简称 Act 20)以来,波多黎各成为极具吸引力的避税天堂之一,对于加密资产投资者而言更是如此。
2. Dan Morehead
3. Dan Morehead
Dan Morehead
Ongoing Market FUD to Result in More Altcoin ReboundAdvertisement
SOL, the native token of the Solana blockchain, has been putting up a price move in the past few days. According to crypto market intelligence platform Santiment, this rally could continue to extend until short traders change their negative sentiment on the popular altcoin.
Santiment noted in a tweet that at present, Solana does not have a lot of big believers, seeing as fear, uncertainty, and doubt (FUD) saw traders start placing massive short bets for SOL on Binance about four days ago.
However, the price of SOL seems to have bottomed out at $20.02 and rebounded to over $21.22 over a 15-hour period, Santiment noted.
Much of the negative sentiments around Solana and SOL have originated from Solana’s ties to the collapsed FTX exchange.
The post also revealed that FTX and its sister-firm Alameda Research, hold over 50 million SOL. While most of the SOL stands vested, it did not stop investors from fearing the worst and looking to exit their SOL and other Solana ecosystem token positions on exchanges.

Solana blockchain ecosystem is still advancing with development
Despite the price surge on the day, SOL is down about 50% in the last month and around 92.4% since the start of the year. This has, however, not stopped development from going on in the Solana ecosystem.
Earlier this year, Solana Labs released an update to the Solana blockchain node software. In a tweet, co-founder of the blockchain startup Anatoly Yakovenko urged validators to upgrade to the new node software version, adding that the update should fix all Solana network outage issues caused by UDP-based protocols’ overload.
Previously, the problem had caused prolonged shutdowns and restarts of the Solana network. According to data from Solana blockchain explorer Solscan, 60.82% of 2,341 validators on the blockchain have upgraded to the latest node version. Around 11% and 7.5% are still running two former versions of the node software.

Examining Crypto: Was It Ever More Than a Solution in Search of a Problem?Examining Crypto: Was It Ever More Than a Solution in Search of a Problem?
Source: Adobe / fox17
As FTX executives testify to the sheer magnitude of ex-boss Sam Bankman-Fried’s seismic crypto fraud during his trial, some can’t help but wonder what legitimate purpose the industry can ever actually serve.
In an opinion piece for the Wall Street Journalon Wednesday, contributing columnist Adam Lashinsky declared that crypto can officially be cast aside as “a solution in search of a problem.” He wrote:
“More than a decade after cryptocurrencies were launched, the promise of these alternative currencies has amounted to little more than broken dreams. At some point, regular people need to start using them, which most certainly isn’t happening with crypto.”
Data from Statistashows that the share of the United States population that has owned or used cryptocurrencies is 16% as of 2023, which is 14 years after Bitcoin first went live. That figure is far higher in developing countries like Nigeria (47%), Turkey (47%), and Argentina (26%), however, where crypto represents a unique investment opportunity and an escape from the devaluation of local fiat currencies.
Billionaire investors including Paul Tudor Jonesand Bill Miller have likened Bitcoin to a form “digital gold,” that can act an inflation hedge due to its fixed supply cap of 21 million coins. Even Blackrock CEO Larry Fink – a former crypto skeptic – claimed that crypto is “digitizing gold” earlier this year, shortly after his fund filed to launch a spot Bitcoin ETF in the United States.
While Bitcoin has historically traded alongside the stock market in practice, it has had periods during which it strongly correlated to gold this year.
Crypto's Inherent Value
Lashinsky dismissed the “digital gold” narrative altogether, however, declaring that cryptocurrencies “have no inherent value, no matter what their promoters insisted.”
His claim echoes that of numerous central banks including the Bank of Canada and Bank of England, which say Bitcoin’s volatility prevents it from being an inflation hedge, and that investors should be prepared to lose everything. In 2022, European Central Bank chief Christine Lagarde said cryptocurrencies are “worth nothing.”
Another proposed benefit for cryptos includes cheaper cross-border remittances – another promise Lashinsky claims has fallen flat. In 2021, research showedthat less than 1% of global remittance volume took place with digital currency.
“Crypto, which exists only in the digital ether, was a made-up concept from its inception,” Lashinky concluded. “After you switch off your computer or phone, you can’t even look at it.”Crypto Weekly Roundup: FTX Auditor In Hot Water And MoreThe United States Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has initiated legal action against FTX’s auditor. Upbit Crypto Exchange Targeted by Hackers More Than 159,000 Times in 2023Surge in Hacking Attempts– Upbit
Upbit, the cryptocurrency exchange, saw a surge in hacking attempts during the first half of 2023, according to data shared by its parent company, Dunamu. Compared to the same period in 2022, hacking attempts increased by a staggering 117%. Moreover, there was a remarkable 1,800% rise in hacking attempts when compared to the second half of 2020.

Escalating Hacking Attempts
Here are the specific numbers: In the second half of 2020, Upbit recorded 8,356 hack attempts. This number surged to 34,687 in the first half of 2021, followed by 63,912 in the second half of 2021. The first half of 2022 witnessed 73,249 hacking attempts, and this number remained the same in the second half of 2022.

Enhancing Security Measures
This concerning trend of increasing hacking attempts began after Upbit suffered a significant hack in 2019, resulting in a loss of 58 billion won, equivalent to approximately $50 million. Subsequently, the exchange took extensive measures to enhance its security, which included distributing hot wallets and operating them. Since 2019, Upbit has not experienced any further security breaches.
Focus on Cold Wallets
Among the measures implemented to bolster security, the exchange increased the percentage of funds retained in cold wallets by 70%. Cold wallets, storing private keys offline, are considered more secure than hot wallets, which keep keys online and are more vulnerable to breaches. Notably, most cryptocurrency exchange hacks have occurred in hot wallets, as seen in several incidents, such as the $70 million hack of Hong Kong-based CoinEx and the $200 million hack of Mixin Network in September 2023.
Government Intervention
The escalating number of cryptocurrency hack attempts in South Korea has prompted Representative Park Seong-jung to call upon the South Korean government to take significant measures to address the issue. Park stressed the need for the Ministry of Science and Technology to conduct large-scale mock tests and investigate information security conditions, particularly for virtual asset exchanges where hacking attempts are frequent.
Recent Incident and Losses
In a recent incident in late September 2023, Upbit encountered an issue when it failed to identify a fake token, “ClaimAPTGift.com,” present in 400,000 Aptos wallets. This led to the suspension of Aptos token services.

Ethereum Plunge Drives Liquidation Above $30 Million, More Pain To Come? The Ethereum price saw a notable price plunge on Monday when the Ethereum Foundation reportedly started selling coins. This plunge, in turn, triggered a series of liquidation events that have seen ETH traderssuffer massive losses in the last day.
Ethereum Liquidation Volumes Cross $30 Million.
By Tuesday, October 10, the Ethereum liquidation numbers triggered by the price crash ramped up quickly to cross the $32 million market. As expected, long traders suffered the majority of the losses with Coinglass data pointing to 87.61% of all ETH liquidationvolumes coming from long traders.

This meant that of the over $32 million in liquidation volumes recorded for the asset in the past day, $29.56 million were from long positions. This meant that only $2.91 million in short positions were liquidated.

Ethereum also snagged the crown for the largest single liquidation event for the 24-hour period. The trade was placed on the Binance crypto exchange across the ETHBUSDpair with a total value of $4.53 million by the time the liquidation occurred.
Ethereum’s volumes also put it ahead of Bitcoin for the same time period when Bitcoin usually tends to lead liquidation volumes. In the 24-hour timeframe, Bitcoin liquidationvolumes came out to $19.28 million compared to $32.48 million for Ethereum. But just like ETH, the vast majority of the liquidation volumes for BTC were from long traders.

Over 20,500 Crypto Traders Suffer Losses
The liquidation volumes over the last day have been nowhere near the highest for the year but that does not make it any less significant. CoinGlass’s data shows that as of the time of writing, 20,525 crypto tradershave been liquidated for a total of $56.42 million.
Of this figure, long traders have accounted for $44.9 million in losses, and short traders for $11.48 million. Besides Bitcoinand Ethereum, the other assets that saw notable volumes were Bitcoin Cash (BCH)with $3.59 million, XRPwith $2.77 million, and Solana (SOL)with $2.75 million.

The Binance exchangeaccounted for the largest volumes at $24.86 million, followed by the OKX exchangewith $17.16 million. Next on the list is ByBitwith $6.90 million, Huobiwith $5.8 million, and the CoinEx exchangewhich rounded off the top 5 with $1.05 million.
If there continues to be any large swing in prices like what was witnessed on Monday, then the liquidation volumes are expected to continue. The only way these volumes will remain low is if assets in the market continue to trade in a tight range.
