Techub News reported that the Bitcoin Policy Institute (BPI) released a report stating that the broader "non-operating companies" classification standard proposed by MSCI this year may still exclude Strategy and Metaplanet from major stock indices based on simulation results. BPI found that the internal path in the metadata of MSCI's public consultation document still includes "Projects/DATCOs/Operating vs Non Operating," which raises concerns that the new rules may continue the previous approach of excluding companies with digital assets accounting for at least 50% of total assets (DAT). BPI also pointed out that MSCI currently has approximately $21 trillion in assets benchmarked to its indices, and adjustments to the index methodology could trigger large-scale passive fund reallocations. Techub News reported, according to Cointelegraph, that the Bitcoin advocacy group Bitcoin Policy Institute (BPI) announced it will submit public comments on the Federal Reserve's upcoming proposal for implementing the Basel framework, advocating for changes to how Bitcoin's asset risk weight is treated within the bank regulatory system. BPI Executive Director Conner Brown stated that Bitcoin is classified as a high-risk asset under the Basel framework, subject to a 1250% risk weight, which is higher than almost all other asset classes, and is characterized as the "most punitive classification." In contrast, cash, physical gold, and government bonds carry a 0% risk weight. The 1250% capital requirement means banks must hold compliant collateral on a 1:1 basis for holding Bitcoin, significantly increasing the cost for banks to hold the asset and limiting their ability to provide financial services to Bitcoin-related businesses.
Techub News reported, according to The Block, Kristin Smith, Dean of the Solana Policy Institute, and CEO Miller Whitehouse-Levine stated in an open letter that the case of Tornado Cash co-founder Roman Storm is "not an isolated dispute." The two called on the U.S. Congress to provide stronger legal protections for software developers when considering relevant legislation, in response to the potential impact of the guilty verdict in this case. The report stated that since the case progressed, crypto industry advocates have raised millions of dollars for his appeal.
