BPI: MSCI’s New Classification Criteria May Still Exclude Strategy and Metaplanet

Techub News reported that the Bitcoin Policy Institute (BPI) released a report stating that the broader "non-operating companies" classification standard proposed by MSCI this year may still exclude Strategy and Metaplanet from major stock indices based on simulation results. BPI found that the internal path in the metadata of MSCI's public consultation document still includes "Projects/DATCOs/Operating vs Non Operating," which raises concerns that the new rules may continue the previous approach of excluding companies with digital assets accounting for at least 50% of total assets (DAT). BPI also pointed out that MSCI currently has approximately $21 trillion in assets benchmarked to its indices, and adjustments to the index methodology could trigger large-scale passive fund reallocations.
