Twenty-eight U.S. lawmakers jointly demand a permanent ban on the issuance of central bank digital currency

Techub News reported, according to Cointelegraph, U.S. Representative Michael Cloud, along with 28 other members of Congress, sent a letter to congressional leadership urging a permanent ban on the issuance of a central bank digital currency (CBDC) in the United States.

The lawmakers argued that a previously proposed amendment to the Federal Reserve Act, which would prohibit the U.S. central bank from issuing a CBDC before 2031, is insufficient. The letter stated, "A central bank digital currency must be permanently prohibited," adding that a CBDC "would subject Americans to unconstitutional financial surveillance and grant unelected Federal Reserve officials unprecedented power to control Americans' finances, infringing on their civil liberties and financial freedom."
