Techub News reports, according to Decrypt, that Moldova's National Anticorruption Center (CNA) has uncovered a cryptocurrency scheme involving approximately $107 million USDT, aimed at influencing the outcome of the 2025 parliamentary elections through illegal funds to support specific candidates and bribe voters. The scheme transferred funds via centralized platforms in Russia and Kyrgyzstan, primarily in USDT, which were exchanged for cash by Moldovan intermediaries to bribe voters, pay for promoting candidate images, fund protest rallies, and mobilize participants; the amount separately transferred in 2025 alone has exceeded $43 million. Blockchain analysis firm TRM Labs linked this scheme to the Russia-backed influence operation InfoLider and noted that the Kyrgyzstan-based exchange TokenSpot may have participated as a front for the sanctioned Russian exchange Garantex. Currently, the related implicated wallets and accounts have been subjected to international sanctions.
