Ripple CTO: XRP is not used to secure the blockchain consensus mechanism

Techub News, according to U.Today, Ripple Chief Technology Officer Emeritus David Schwartz explained that XRP tokens are not used in the XRP Ledger (XRPL) consensus mechanism. He detailed that the PoS mechanism had not yet emerged when XRPL was developed, and that using XRP to drive consensus would inevitably allow Ripple to control the mechanism. The XRP Ledger relies on a "stakeholder selection" mechanism, where participants choose validators they trust to reach consensus. According to his 2020 lecture, artificial mining or staking rewards are an attack on natural stakeholders, and the only reason to participate in the system is the hope that it operates reliably.
