Swiss town launches Hedera blockchain biodiversity voucher system

Residents who participate in environmental protection efforts such as meadow restoration and wetland conservation can receive digital vouchers pegged to the Swiss franc, which can be exchanged for francs at a 1:1 ratio at local merchants.

The project replaces a paper voucher system that had been in operation for eight years, with Swisscoast providing the HCHF stablecoin payment infrastructure. This move marks the expansion of blockchain applications by Swiss municipal institutions from financial services to environmental projects and local commerce, and also provides a practical case for the country's stablecoin regulations currently being developed under FINMA oversight.
