Reserve Bank of India: Countries Should Prioritize CBDC Over Private Stablecoins

Techub News reported, according to Cointelegraph, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) urged countries in its December Financial Stability Report to prioritize the development of Central Bank Digital Currencies (CBDCs) over privately issued stablecoins to mitigate potential shocks to financial stability. The RBI stated that CBDCs help maintain the "singleness of money and the integrity of the financial system" and should continue to serve as the "final settlement asset" and the "cornerstone of trust in money." It also pointed out that stablecoins could create new channels for financial stability risks during periods of market stress, and countries need to prudently assess and formulate corresponding regulatory policies based on their own financial systems.
