Techub News reported that Hong Kong Financial Secretary Paul Chan Mo-po stated in a blog post that Hong Kong is accelerating efforts to establish a central gold clearing system as a crucial financial infrastructure. This aims to enhance the reliability and efficiency of gold trading and physical delivery, reduce transaction costs, and increase liquidity. The target is to commence trial operations within 2026 and invite the Shanghai Gold Exchange to participate.
Chan also mentioned that the gold price has accumulated an increase of "over 60%" in 2025. By the third quarter of 2025, the total global gold demand value rose 44% year-on-year to USD 146 billion. Hong Kong's spot gold trading has also become more active. As of November 2025, the average daily turnover of Hong Kong Gold Exchange's 99 gold surged over two-fold year-on-year to HKD 2.9 billion.
