Techub News, according to CryptoBriefing, SoftBank Group plans to convert the former Sharp LCD factory, which it acquired for approximately 100 billion yen ($676 million), into a battery production base to support its AI data center expansion. The facility is expected to begin trial production in fiscal year 2027 and achieve several GWh of mass production capacity by fiscal year 2028. Located in Sakai City, Osaka, the factory covers an area of 440,000 square meters. After renovation, it will be integrated with SoftBank's existing solar power generation capacity of over 3 gigawatts. The company also plans to offer battery-related services to other Japanese enterprises, and this acquisition is seen as a key move to support its participation in AI infrastructure projects such as Stargate.
