Techub News reports that Etherscan tweeted that address poisoning attacks on Ethereum are intensifying, especially after the Fusaka upgrade reduced transaction costs, leading to a significant increase in high-frequency attack activities. A study covering July 2022 to June 2024 shows that there were approximately 17 million poisoning attempts on Ethereum, affecting about 1.3 million users, with confirmed losses of at least $79.3 million. The Fusaka upgrade activated on December 3, 2025, while lowering transaction fees, also significantly reduced the cost of attacks. Within 90 days after the upgrade, the volume of USDT dust transfers (below $0.01) surged from 4.2 million to 29.9 million, an increase of 612%; USDC dust transfers rose from 2.6 million to 14.9 million, an increase of 473%. ETH dust transfers (below 0.00001 ETH) increased from 104.5 million to 169.7 million, a growth of 62%. Etherscan stated that the success rate of a single poisoning attack is about 0.01%, but attackers can still achieve considerable profits by sending large-scale batches.
Address poisoning attacks refer to sending small transfers with spoofed addresses to target wallets, planting fake addresses in users' transaction history, and tricking users into copying the wrong address during their next transfer.
