Techub News reports that Chainalysis has released a cryptocurrency crime report. The report shows that in 2025, illicit cryptocurrency addresses received at least $154 billion, a year-on-year increase of 162%, primarily driven by a 694% growth in activities by sanctioned entities. Illicit transactions still account for less than 1% of all crypto transaction volume, but stablecoins now constitute 84% of the total illicit transaction volume.
Furthermore, in 2025, North Korea-linked hackers stole $2 billion, with the Bybit exploit in February resulting in nearly $1.5 billion in losses, marking the largest heist in crypto history. The ruble-backed token A7A5, launched by Russia in February 2025, achieved a trading volume exceeding $93.3 billion in less than a year. Iranian proxy networks facilitated over $2 billion in on-chain money laundering, illicit oil sales, and arms procurement.
