Techub News reports that YouTube Music has announced a new tagging system aimed at increasing transparency for songs created using generative AI. Listeners will be able to easily identify tracks created with AI (including composing and singing), with tags displayed on the player page. Clicking the tag reveals the specific role AI played in the creation. This tagging system will also extend to the main YouTube app. YouTube states that it works with music partners and has deployed detection tools to identify AI-generated music, allowing partners to declare tracks with three types of tags: "Fully AI Generated," "Partially AI Generated," or "Not AI Generated."
This move comes as AI-generated music rapidly expands on streaming platforms. For example, Apple Music plans to launch an "AI Made" tag later this year, and Spotify already has AI tags and music spam filters. By contrast, YouTube focuses on disclosure rather than outright restrictions, and the involvement of AI itself will not disqualify a track from monetization. (TechCrunch)
