Techub News reported, according to Cointelegraph, the American Bankers Association (ABA) has listed cracking down on stablecoin yields as a top priority for 2026, as part of its ongoing debate with U.S. lawmakers, with the banking industry believing this will harm the competitiveness of the banking sector.

The ABA stated that one of this year's priorities is to "prevent payment stablecoins from becoming deposit substitutes by prohibiting interest, yield, or rewards to avoid a reduction in community bank lending." U.S. Bank CEO Brian Moynihan said earlier this month that up to $6 trillion could shift from banks to interest-bearing stablecoins. In response, Circle CEO Jeremy Allaire dismissed concerns that stablecoin yields could trigger a bank run as "utterly ridiculous."
