Moody's proposes a stablecoin rating framework focusing on reserve quality

Techub News reported, according to The Block, credit rating agency Moody's is proposing a new framework for assessing stablecoins that are increasingly integrated into the traditional financial system. The suggestion is to first evaluate each eligible asset type within a stablecoin's reserve pool and determine its credit quality through the ratings of the assets and related counterparties. This framework implies that, in practice, two stablecoins claiming a 1:1 peg to the US dollar could receive different ratings due to differences in their underlying reserve assets. Moody's is now inviting market participants to submit feedback on the proposal by January 26, 2026.
