Techub News reports that the U.S. Treasury Department's Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) has announced sanctions against Cambodian Senator Kok An and his scam network, involving a total of 28 individuals and entities. The network operates multiple scam centers in Cambodia, luring American victims into transferring funds to fraudulent digital asset investment platforms by pretending to be romantic partners or friends. Some of the scammers are themselves victims of human trafficking, forced to engage in fraudulent activities. The scam centers are mostly located in casinos and repurposed office parks, with Kok An providing venues, infrastructure, and security support through his holding companies such as Crown Resorts and Anco Brothers, and leveraging political connections for protection. This operation was coordinated with the Scam Center Strike Force and also includes criminal charges against individuals involved in scam centers in Myanmar, the seizure of communication software, and the confiscation of 503 fraudulent domain names. Previously, OFAC has imposed sanctions on similar scam networks in Cambodia and Myanmar multiple times.
