Techub News, according to The Block, the Firedancer team from Jump Crypto has initiated the SIMD-0370 proposal. This proposal suggests removing the current fixed computational unit (CU) limit of 60 million per block (a previous proposal planned to increase this limit to 100 million) following the major Solana upgrade, Alpenglow, which is set to be tested later this year. The proposal argues that without a fixed limit, block sizes would adjust based on the transaction capacity of high-performance validators, while weaker validators would automatically abstain from voting on oversized blocks through a skip-voting mechanism. Well-funded block producers would upgrade their hardware to include more transactions for increased revenue, incentivizing other producers to follow suit, creating a "flywheel effect" that enhances the average capacity of validator clients.
In response, Roger Wattenhofer, Head of Research at Anza and a promoter of the Solana Alpenglow upgrade, supports removing the limit but has also expressed concerns about potential centralization and network stability risks. However, he stated that these issues are solvable and that he has always been a strong supporter of removing the limit.
