The report cites analysis stating that when options open interest exceeds futures, it typically reflects a market shift from more "directional leverage" positions towards more structured exposure allocations, such as hedging, yield strategies, and volatility positions. Checkonchain data shows that options open interest had significantly declined by the end of December 2025 and was rebuilt in early January. In contrast, futures open interest changes were more stable during the same period.
