Metaplanet posts Q1 net loss of $726M on Bitcoin impairment

Techub News reports, according to crypto.news, Metaplanet announced a net loss of 7.26 billion yen for the first quarter of 2026, primarily due to a bitcoin impairment of 7.37 billion yen. During the same period, revenue increased 251% year-on-year to 19.5 million yen, and operating profit rose 283% to 14.4 million yen.

In the first quarter, the company added 5,075 bitcoins, bringing its total holdings to 40,177 bitcoins. It stated that it will continue to execute its reserve strategy, targeting 210,000 bitcoins by the end of 2027, and emphasized that the book loss is merely a market value fluctuation under accounting standards and does not affect actual operations.
