Techub News reports, according to CoinDesk, Chainalysis stated that North Korea-linked hackers stole approximately $2 billion in crypto assets in 2025, a 51% increase from 2024, bringing the total stolen amount to $6.75 billion. Additionally, individual wallet thefts accounted for only 20% of the total stolen amount in 2025, down from 44% last year. Although the number of such incidents surged to 158,000, the amount stolen per victim decreased by 52%, to $713 million.
The report points out that unlike other cybercriminals, North Korean cybercrime groups primarily target large centralized crypto services, pursuing maximum impact rather than attack frequency. Criminals linked to North Korea were responsible for 76% of service-level security breaches in 2025, a record high. Furthermore, their money laundering methods are also quite notable. While other hackers tend to disperse stolen funds through large on-chain transfers, North Korean hackers consistently operate with small transactions under $500,000.
