Techub News reports, according to U.Today, that Litecoin developers recently disclosed a Zero-Day vulnerability report on the MWEB privacy protocol. In April this year, hackers exploited a data validation flaw in the protocol to perform a "peg-out" operation, minting 85,034 LTC out of thin air, causing the network to split and roll back 13 blocks. The attack also affected cross-chain protocols, with NEAR Intents losing 7.78 Bitcoin and THORChain losing approximately 0.007 Bitcoin. The Litecoin core team has released version 0.21.5.4 to fix the vulnerability. In the initial attack, founder Charlie Lee paid 850 LTC to reach a settlement with the hacker.
Techub News, Litecoin has disclosed that a recent zero-day vulnerability led to a DoS attack, affecting the operation of major mining pools. Mining nodes that were not updated in time allowed an invalid MWEB (MimbleWimble Extension Block) transaction to be executed, enabling the relevant tokens to be withdrawn to a third-party DEX. The Litecoin network rolled back these invalid transactions through a reorganization (reorg) of 13 blocks, confirming that they would not be included in the main chain. All valid transactions during this period were unaffected. The vulnerability has now been fully fixed, and the network is operating normally.
Techub News reports, according to ZachXBT monitoring, a victim lost over 282 million USD worth of LTC and Bitcoin due to a hardware wallet-related social engineering scam. ZachXBT stated that the disclosed stolen addresses total approximately 2,050,000 LTC and 1,459 BTC. The attacker subsequently exchanged the stolen LTC and BTC for Monero through multiple instant exchange platforms, causing short-term price fluctuations in XMR. It was also mentioned that some BTC underwent cross-chain transfers via Thorchain, involving networks such as Ethereum, XRP, and Litecoin.
Techub News reports that Lighter has begun using the fees generated by the protocol to repurchase its token LIT. As of now, approximately 180,493 LIT tokens have been cumulatively repurchased and held, valued at around $540,000.
