Techub News reports, according to CoinDesk, browser maker Opera intends to replace its previously agreed cash transaction scheme with Celo with a distribution of 160 million CELO tokens. The proposal has been submitted to Celo's governance forum, aiming to replace the quarterly dollar rewards with token rewards over a three-year period. According to CoinMarketCap data, the current circulating supply of CELO tokens is approximately 600 million. Therefore, the proposed distribution would account for about 27% of the circulating supply and 16% of its maximum supply. Opera and Celo stated that this change reflects the role of Opera's self-custody crypto wallet MiniPay on Celo. Since its launch in 2023, the wallet has reached 14 million registered users and 420 million transactions across 66 countries/regions.
Techub News, Rene, the president of the Celo Foundation, posted on X stating that the CELO token economic model will be upgraded, with consideration given to introducing a token buyback and burn mechanism to improve the long-term economic architecture. He mentioned that as network activity grows, the existing model needs to be redesigned to better accommodate the increasing demand for transaction fees. The upgrade process will be carried out in four stages: first, soliciting public feedback on the Celo forum, followed by inviting researchers, token economists, and ecosystem contributors to participate in the coming weeks; then proceeding with research and modeling; the third stage involves community review; and finally, completion through the governance process.

Techub News: According to Decrypt, FC Barcelona has signed a three-year global sponsorship agreement worth $22 million with cryptocurrency company Zero-Knowledge Proof (ZKP), but the move has drawn external criticism. Xavier Vilajoana, a former board member of the club, stated that reaching an agreement with this cryptocurrency startup is a sign of financial "desperation," highlighted red flags in the company's background, and called the decision extremely concerning. ZKP launched its social media accounts and whitepaper earlier this month. At the time of the agreement, ZKP had only 33 followers on the X platform. Its website does not provide detailed information about ownership and funding structure and is currently conducting an Initial Coin Offering (ICO). FC Barcelona clarified in an official statement that the club "has no association whatsoever with the company’s token" and that the token's existence or issuance was never discussed with the club during sponsorship negotiations. The existence and issuance of the token are not part of the sponsorship agreement previously signed with the club.
